Kentucky fans are going to face a huge problem after the 2012 NBA Draft is done.  Granted, the problem is a good one to have, however is a problem none the less.  The tough question that every UK fan will have to answer , “Which NBA team do I root for?

Kentucky is set to send 6 more players to the league next season.  This influx of Kentucky players in the pros will add to the already saturated Kentucky mix that is scattered all over the NBA.  UK fans are the most passionate in all of sports and love following their players into their pro careers.  This passion will cause a bit a problem now as so many NBA teams will have Kentucky Wildcats on their roster.

The easy fix  is to cheer on everybody, and not align yourself with one team.  This is good in theory but will wreak havoc on your wallet.  For instance, you would have to buy 15 + different hats, 15 + shirts / jerseys, and 15 + different foam fingers.  That would add up to quite a bit of cash.

So, your not Mr. Moneybags and decide that you are going to bite the bullet and only support one NBA team.  How do you possibly pick?  Do you go and buy gear for the NBA team with the most UK players?  Do you pick the team that has your favorite player?  Do you draw straws?

As you can tell, this is a tough decision for any UK fan to make.  I’m included in this as I don’t know what to do.  I wrote a very similar post as this one last season, and now our decision is harder.   Next season, it becomes even tougher yet again.  The problems of a Kentucky fan, and I love it !

The Difference Between Nerlens Noel and Anthony Davis

Nerlens Noel has some big shoes to fill.  How would you like to follow one of the most spectacular freshman big men to ever step on a college floor?  It would be tough sell for anyone.  However, Nerlens Noel has accepted that challenge.

At first glance, Noel and Davis are very similar.   Davis is one of the greatest shot blockers I have ever had the pleasure to witness.  Noel is , said by some, the greatest shot blocker to come out of high school.  It is a no brainer to say that these two are great defensive players.  Let’s take a look closer.

The real difference in the two so far is not how many shots they block, but how they block shots.  Anthony Davis has been compared to Bill Russell by more than one sports tv analyst.  I believe that’s a pretty fair analogy.  Russell made his name by blocking shots and keeping the ball inbounds.  Davis followed suite this season by keeping possession after blocking the shot.  This skill is one that isn’t taught, but rather comes natural.  On the other hand, Noel blocks shots much differently.  When Noel blocks a shot he makes sure the ball goes into the 4th row.  Nerlens’ style is really spectacular but doesn’t always end with his team getting the ball.  What it does is put a fear in the opposing team.  Coming from someone who often got his shot sent into the crowd, I learned the lesson and starting shooting jumpers.  That is what Noel does. He shuts down the middle and forces the team to play from the outside.

Regardless their different styles, Davis and Noel are going to be known as the best shot blocking big men in UK history when it is all said and done.  Noel is going to have a hard time living up to the expectation, but I believe he will be up for the challenge. Who is ready for Big Blue Madness?
