The NCAA is stupid. Most people would say the same thing about the governing body of college athletics if asked their opinion as well. Nerlens Noel is the latest example of how the NCAA has gotten away from what it is meant to be.
So, what is all the fuss over Nerlens Noel in the news recently? It is all to do with the unofficial visits he made to several colleges before committing to Kentucky. First, I think it is important to note that there is no alleged wrong doing by any university in the recruitment of Noel. Yes, your right, it would seem that would be the case if the NCAA is investigating this. Any assumption you had toward that, however , is wrong. The investigators are simply checking on who paid for Noel’s plane tickets to travel to different schools. They don’t even care if the person who paid for the tickets had anything to do with basketball. Scott Anderson reported that they interviewed one of Noels friends because Noel had went on vacation with the family. Pure stupidity if you ask me, by the NCAA. So the question the NCAA is asking with that is, can a future player get his vacation paid for by a lifelong friend?
The saga that is the Nerlens Noel investigation will continue for quite some time. Meanwhile, the University of North Carolina has full fledged committed academic fraud and nobody cares about it. Think about it this way. The media and the NCAA would rather spend time trying to figure out how Nerlens Noel paid for a plane ticket than report and investigate a possible academic manipulation at UNC. Is is just me, or is something wrong about that?
My final gripe of the day goes to Pete Thamel(who Matt Jones likes to call Pete Thameltoe). Thamel would love to take down John Calipari. His hatred toward Coach Cal has clouded his progress though. Thamel has overlooked that fact that the Noel investigation has nothing to do with UK. The outcome will decide if Noel gets to play college basketball, not if Kentucky will get in trouble or not. I guess Thamel has decided that if he can’t get Cal, he is going to badger anyone associated with him.
I think it may be time to take down the NCAA because they have gotten way too powerful. They are so big that they can no longer govern themselves. The NCAA has become corrupt over the years and uses its powers for its own political agenda. Nerlens Noel is not the first athlete to be harassed by them, and unless something is done, he won’t be the last.
