The Harrison twins decision is now less than 24 hours away. Thursday at 5 PM, the twins will decide to come play for Calipari at Kentucky or play for Under Armour at Maryland. No, I didn’t just have a typo. Coach Cal is competing with a shoe company for these wonder twin recruits.
Personally, I believe the Harrison’s are going to end up at Kentucky. I don’t have any sources to tell me that. It is just my gut feeling. However, I would like to just take a moment and look at the twin’s recruitment process and figure some things out. Does the fact that Under Armour is in the picture so much make anyone feel icky ? I just don’t understand how their Dad can throw the Under Armour name around so much and it be ok. The last time I checked, you are not allowed to have a contract and play basketball(unless you play at Duke or UNC). If this is the case(and it is), then why did Harrison Sr say the two coaches and an Under Armour rep is the only people in contact with the boys? What does the Under Armour person have to do with anything?
If the Harrison twins pick Maryland over Kentucky then something fishy is going on. Wouldn’t it be a huge red flag for the NCAA that a shoe company helped Maryland recruit over Coach Cal? Let’s flip the situation a little. What would have happened last year if Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s mom said the only people allowed to talk to MKG were a Nike representatives? I don’t think that would have gone over too well.
In any case, it will all be over tomorrow. Make sure you tune into to ESPNU at 5 PM to watch the live announcement. Coach Cal has had some tough recruiting wars, but I think this is the first time he has ever had to recruit against an athletic company. I can’t wait to see how this plays out.
